The front features the red symbol of the Chinese Railway System, flanked by two characters meaning Beijing Railway Train (京列 jing lie). A wide band of blue-and-white scrolling lotus blossoms create a top register. Other than the floral band, the back is plain. The lid features similar blue-and-white decorations.

Hearst Museum object titled Train mug and lid, accession number 9-23532a,b, described as Tapered Cup with lid. A hand-painted decal shows an imposing building on a mountain above a lake. The reverse side is inscribed (see below). An imitation gold bowstring is on the edge of the lid which may be a replacement. Inscription: Back: “Sail reflecting on spring river” (春江帆影 Chunjiang fanying). On foot: “Product 2 of Jingdezhen, China” (中國景德鎮出品2 Zhongguo Jingdezhen chupin 2)
