Image Missing: Hearst Museum object titled Sword guard, accession number 9-12571, described as Sword guard; oval shaped, chocolate-brown metal with applied high relief decoration on a concentric “fish row” (nanako) pattern. Hole on each side of the hole for the tang of sword. Decoration on one side depicts four warriors, one mounted, with a long banner, another walking from a seashore. Waves, mountain, pinetree in fore and background. Other side depicts a gnarled pine tree, mountain and a cloth enclosure. The relief is very intricate with copper and gilt detail.
