Hearst Museum object titled Cloth textile, accession number 9-17014a-c, described as Bedspread, taffeta, with Mandarin robe motifs attached. Robe pieces are on black fabric with multi-colored embroidery depicting dragons, bats and other motifs. Mounted onto blue taffeta; bedspread has blue taffeta skirt. (b&c) are pieces that have come off of the bedspread. All pieces are fragile and torn. (a) width approx. 2 1/1 meters (b) 54cm wide; (c) 53 1/2cm wide. (b) has no taffeta attached

Dark blue silk plain weave ground, each embroidered with archaic design of five flower and bat emblems in oranges and yellows, surrounded by blue flowering vines. Border of fourteen straight rows of gold thread. Brocaded blue and gold tape added later. Hem lining of blue silk. b iis stamped "Made in China". Slit tapestry technique, approximately 40 ends per inch, white warp, blue silk floss weft. No damage, very fine. China attr. A) faded, 30.4 cm by 23.8 cm, B) 28.1 cm by 23.9 cm.

Chinese inscription on end of each. Silk, silk floss; predominantly satin stitch w/ French nots & couching w/ gold paper-wrapped thread. China unspec. Probably mandarin robe sleeve bands. A). 46.7 cm by 8.9 cm., B) 47 cm by 8.5 cm.

Multicolored geometric diaper ground, with scattered flowers in vases, birds, shellfish (?). Black and red satin borders, and pink linings on a and c added later. Some deterioration and cutting along edges. a) L. 39 cm. W. 11 cm. b) L. 37 cm. W 11 cm. c) L. 39 cm. W. 12 cm China att. Background: silk; gauze weave. Pattern area: untwisted silk, natural dyes; counted thread stitches. Supplementary: silk; satin weave, plain weave. Original use unknown.
