Hearst Museum object titled Figurine, accession number 9-13471, described as Figure; ceramic with three color glaze. Represents Chung-Li Ch'uan (or Hotei in Japan), one of eight immortals. Stands on short, flat base, with abdomen protruding from green robes, large head with broad smile, long ears, bald. Holds treasure bag in right hand and rosary in left. Toes show beneath robe. Ochre glaze skin, purple-brown bag and sash, blue-green robes.Bottom of base flat with three chipped stilt marks. Hollow. H=19cm, max W=8.5cm Made for export. "Representation is of Putai No San (Mr. Linen Bag), one of the seven Gods of Luck usually identified with a Chinese priest of the Xth Century named Chishi (or Keishi).
