Hearst Museum object titled Rain cape, mino, accession number 9-23004, described as Traditional Japanese rain cape or mino woven from rice straw ("wara"), migo (?), and hemp. Two layers: inner layer is woven together into a flap; outer layer is braided on the outside and loose straw on the inside.
Hearst Museum object titled Shawl, accession number 9-21229, described as Shawl.  211 cm. long x  91.5 cm. wide; ecru (natural) hemp (?) (single-ply) plus some natural cotton warp on one selvedge only (3 cm. wide) + 2 double stripes.  Yarn appears handspun (irregular in diameter).  Cotton weft stripe 3.5 cm. at each end before fringe ends.  Fringes are 6-7 cm. long.  Scattered cotton embroidery all over:  3 lines forming a parallelogram, spaced 13 cm. apart (length) x 11 cm. apart (width), each motif measures 1.2 x 1.7 cm.; embroidery appears to be close running stitch.
