: Hearst Museum object titled Carrying basket, museum number 1-10239, described as Carrying basket; twined. Warp and weft are Willow (Salix). Black pattern is Brake fern (Pteris quilina). Open diagonal twined. Entirely covered on exterior face with soaproot juice (Chlorogalum pomeridianum), rendering basket seed-tight. Reinforcing hoop at rim. Two horizontal bands of black stitches as decoration. Made of peeled and split shoots.

Pattern is Brake fern (Pteris quilina). Open diagonal twined with "strawberry weave" (one plain strand and one dark strand) achieving decorative banding effect. Decoration: four horizontal bands of black twining.
