: Hearst Museum object titled Basket, museum number TB-64, described as Accompanying tag reads: "Basket. Round, flat base, sides incurving, design of stepped triangular elements alternating with vertical diamond elements, in brown on light brown ground"; paper tag with number 12 and 225 pasted on inside. H - 12.7cm. diam. at rim - 13.2cm. 7-19-1995 Basket was found on Washo shelf. L. Dawson states that basket might be Maidu; split stitches but not consistent, maybe split maple shoots. Per Ralph Shanks: Globular bowl, contracting towards mouth. Coiled 3 rod basket with redbud and bracken fern root designs. Background peeled shoot, possibly maple. Leftward warp direction. 5 interlocked vertical diamonds with center half filled. Other design of 6-7 peaked mountain like figures, 5 vertical rows of 10 figures. Weaver hair woven in. Could be 1-72892 based on dimensions but original number does not match. Original numbering system is consistent with Shoemaker accession 485.
