Hearst Museum object titled Stand, accession number 9-9565c, described as Stand, carved wood, with cylindrical extension which has hollowed-out top; a) base carved openwork of foliage and 4 snakes facing 4 attached dragon-headed legs; b) pedestal: 4 outward facing S-shaped dragons, each with snake in mouth; bodies of each culminate in head of fish; c) finely carved shesham (?) wood column with cuspidor-like top; (a) and (b) are same wood; top of (b) is carved so that (c), which is a different wood, fits into it. It is probable that the piece has two different points of origin and was modified to create an ashtray. The cup at top is separate, is held with nail; nail at base fits into fitting on (b).
