Hearst Museum object titled Bag, accession number 9-15830, described as Bag.  Hemp? also stiff vegetable fiber.  Knotted netting, bariaded veg. fiber rings.  Natural.  Tayal tribe.  January 1969 condit. good.  17 inches by 16 inches.
Hearst Museum object titled Bag, accession number 9-15853, described as BAG WITH HANDLES.  Hemp-like twine.  Knotting.  Deep gold.  A 2-handled carrying bag. Finer knotted pattern making up body of bag is broken by two 1 inch-wide bands of larger pattern.  Large open squares at top taper into handles.  Cost about $1.50.  Prob. not a native taiwanese technique or design but introduced by a U.S. artists employed by UN agency to aid crafts people in underdeveloped lands.  January 1969  condit. good.  14 inches wide by 18½ inches long.
