Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number 1-236809, described as Twined, shouldered bottle shape with 5 horizontal bands of black patterns on natural ground and 3 rows of 3-strand twining on shoulder.  Unpitched.  Weave:  diagonal twining and 3-strand twining, warp peeled willow shoots.  Weft:  split peeled willow shoot.  Design in bracken fern root and split redbud shoots.

Decorated with circular design of four horses and name "Big Pine CAL" in brown on natural ground. Per Ralph Shanks:  Bullrush root for dark designs and background and foundation rods are willow.  Pinhole starting knot and plain wrapped rim.

Eastern Mono ollas were used to store water, not used for irrigation like Spanish ceramic ollas that were introduced to Natives in the Southwest (though Eastern Mono did implement irrigation as well). There is a handle for carrying but it is situated at the top of the basket while the spout is at the side. There is also (or supposed to be) a stopper.
