Badly damaged at base. Split at one side. Tag: "Klamath R. Tribes Att." Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket tray, perhaps a flour/ sifting tray. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably willow. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass. At the starting knot there is .5 inch of three strand twining, followed by 1.5 inches of plain twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining. After that plain twining continues until 1 inch below the rim, where there is one weft row of three strand twining, after which plain twining continues to the rim. Above the base are two horizontal bands of alternating beargrass. The main design is a band of connected triangles in conifer root with a solid beargrass background, with two bands of alternating beargrass and conifer root above and below. At the rim there is another band of conifer root triangles. The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is primarily on the inside. The rim is trimmed. The basket is from Northwestern California.

Oversize. 2-2003] Per Ralph Shanks: Storage basket, close twined. Very oily, oval shaped, perhaps because fish were kept in it. Conifer root wefts with beargrass overlay. Plain twined. Parallelogram design with diamond chains and zigzag design at top. Remnants of reinforcing lattice twine at rim. At starting knot 3 strand twining, and then later on in bottom two more bands of 3 strand.

Black looks to be equisetum root which occurred among Whilkut and Wiyot alike. Confer root weft. Black shows through on backside of basket, which is more common in Whilkut area. Design at top does not look Wiyot. Has weaver's hair towards rim.

Oversized and awaiting conservation. Needs to be photographed. 2-2003]. This was thought to be 1-11866. Per Ralph Shanks: Northwestern California storage basket. May have once had lid. Primarily plain twined. Some three strand twining at bottom. Near top, 3 cm of open work of paired crossed warps ending in three strand twining. Warps are hazel, wefts are conifer root, and overlay is beargrass. Cross warp starting knot. The basket's bottom has semi-open work leading up to a reinforcing rod and after which sides are close twined. Designs are two rows of triangles and zigzags.
