Hearst Museum object titled Mug and lid, accession number 9-23481a,b, described as Hand-potted. Painted with a snow landscape in color. Two figures stand on the bank near a mansion, across the water there are distant mountains. The characters at the top left of the image may read “made by son of Jin Fan”: (?金樊子作 ?Jin Fanzi zuo). On the lid seven characters are written in a continuous circle in a style reminiscent of inscriptions on ancient bronze vessels: “[on this] day made auspicious treasure for use” (日作吉祥之宝用Ri zuo jxiang zhi bao yong). Inscription: On the back: “Snow renews the landscape and brings inspiration for poems. Imitating the method of Liuru [Ming dynasty painter Tang Yin], Xie Lin Faxiang wrote in Jingdezhen” (雪能增诗興 山河景换新 仿六如之法 谢林发祥写于景镇市 xue neng zeng shi xing, shanhe jing huan xin. Fang Liuru zhi fa, Xie Lin Faxiang xieyu Jingzhen shi). A small red seal follows. Slightly illegible kiln mark seems to be the name of the painter: “Xie Lin Faxiang of Jiangxi” (江西谢林发祥 Jiangxi Xie Lin Faxiang).

Inscription: Kiln mark (partially illegible): “Product of number three ceramic hand…production cooperative, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province” (江西省景德镇市第三瓷器手…生产…出品 Jiangxi sheng Jingdezhen shi di san ciqi shou… shengchan … chupin)
Hearst Museum object titled Mug and lid, accession number 9-23480a,b, described as Decorated with a green decal of the once-annual encounter between the Herd Boy and Weaving Maiden (Niu Lang and Zhi Nu). The female deity wears lavish costume and seems to have descended from heaven. The Herd Boy wears a scholar’s robe and is accompanied by an ox. Above the image are four characters reading from left to right: “Herd boy and weaving maiden” (牛郎織女 Niu Lang Zhi Nü). On the reverse, a green decal of birds and clouds. Lid is decorated with two green decals of birds. Knob is crisscrossed with blue lines. Fired on three spurs. No kiln mark.
