Hearst Museum object titled Black-and-white negative, accession number 15-30283, described as Black and white negative of monkeys and a man at a temple dedicated to Hanuman. Hoefler's original description: "Jaipur, Rajputana, India. At the eastern foot of the hill, on which stands the Sun Temple, lies an ancient place of pilgrimage, called Galta, a narrow gorge filled with tiled tanks, temples and bathing ghats, that time has claimed for its own. Here a most famous temple was built to the monkey god, Hanuman, and here monkeys are sacred. Thousands of these creatures play among the ruins, and the photograph shows Jacqueline Hoefler feeding some of these. Hoefler's original description: "Jaipur, Rajputana, India. The priest who attends to the wants of the sun god. In a country where poverty and half-starvation are the lot of the majority of the people, being a priest has many advantages. During the annual procession all the priest has to do is to wave some colored sticks and lighted candles in front of the sun god's face, and between times, to gather in the coins and assorted vegetables that are cast by the multitudes at the feet of the god. Later, after returning to the temple, the old man can be found counting the coins and sorting the carrots from the cabbages and potatoes. One ripe tomato had flown a little high and the bright red spot left by its landing decorated his white flowing beard." (Prints Supplied To: Mondiale, London; International News.)

The main city wall can be seen in the middle distance, this latter still acting as a protection to the city. Every night the gates are closed, no one being allowed to either enter or leave the city until the signal gun is fired at 4:30 A.M. Jaipur is quite different from other Indian cities, its streets being laid out like those of a modern city. Kipling said that American cities were copied after Jaipur but that "knowing nothing of Jai Singh, they took all the credit to themselves." Hoefler's original description: "Jaipur, Rajputana, India. The only photograph ever secured of the sun god on his throne, high in the temple that sits atop a mountain on the outskirts of Jaipur. This photograph was secured by casting a beam of sunlight with a large mirror and reflecting this beam around corners by means of other mirrors, until it was finally thrown into the dungeon-dark throne room. Notice the highly fantastic makeup of the God. His makeup has been given a lot of thought and everything has been done which will add to his appeal. Gold, silver and jewels have been lavished upon him and the many ceremonies that are his daily routine are all calculated to heighten his hold upon the imaginations of those who worship him."
