Context: According to Christina Kessler (personal observations in rural Canton province of the PRC in 1975 and 1977): "Chinese harvesting scoop. Rattan. Usually smaller, constructed with bamboo. Multipurpose carrying and winnowing basket. Often two are slung from a carrying pole to transport soil from work sites. The handle and enclosing loose weave work are later additions or improvisations on the basic design.
