Hearst Museum object titled Katsina figure, accession number 2-72124, described as Standing figure; carved and painted cotton wood root figure with white face decorated with 2 rectangular black eyes and small, square, black mouth over 2 connected brown diamond shapes which extends across cheeks and from bridge of nose to chin. Each is bordered with a narrow turquoise line. Striated black hair hangs down back almost to waist. A painted roundel with carved wooden feathers is attached over each ear. Body is painted with a white wash over which brown/tan lines are painted. Figure wears a painted breast plate over which hangs a turquoise necklace and an orange bandolier over right shoulder extending almost to hem of kilt, over which, around top of kilt, is a pointed "concho belt" with a decorated roundel on right. A carved foxtail is attached at back. Kilt carved and painted to resemble deerskin. Wears sepia tone "Taos" boots with decorated ties around cuffs. Holds a red arrow in right hand and a bowl in left hand. Lewis Rogers, carver.
