Decoration:  Black designs very similar to the "standing up" design recorded by Barrett. Dark material is brackenfern root. 3-rod coiling, with interlocking stitches.

Basket has been repaired at bottom and is badly damaged along rim and at bottom.

The design on this basket called "measuring worm" or "inch worm" (fide Mrs. Silva, July 1973). Mended.

Black pattern is Brake fern (Pteris quilina). Shallow and flaring, of 1-stick coiling technique with interlocking stitches.  Design consists of a horizontal row of solid red inverted triangles at rim and a horizontal row of upwards-pointed red triangles beneath this first row.

Decoration consists of 5 groups of black and red horizontal lines; each group contains eleven parallel lines (or stitches).  The basket is executed in single-rod coiling with interlocking stitches.
