Hearst Museum object titled Bag, accession number 9-23771, described as Half of a storage bag, idl. Handsome panel in maroon with dark blue stripes and black and white saha in two stripes 3.5" wide. Four 2-warp-wide white dots in plain weave. Top and bottom sewn as for bag opening. Selvage clearly were sewn before, one to another twin panel, the other to close the side of bag. Dark blue seems to have been black or dark brown originally, then dyed with dark blue. On closer examination I see that it's made of two panels sewn by whip-stitching together. S-ply, probably commercial dye, plain weave and saha pickup, 12 EPI. Thras embroidered at ends. One piece folded over at one end and carefully sewn. Probably made for sale.

Hearst Museum object titled Blanket or dividing curtain, accession number 9-23772, described as Blanket or dividing curtain, 6-paneled saha. An old weaving of type not seen in Saudi Arabian Bedouin weaving. Similar to Uzbek Ghazerys in the narrow stripes with 2-3 colors each in saha pickup technique and intricate patterns, fine yarns. This one has 6 strips, none exactly the same size as the other, between 5.5"-8" wide each. Colors are blue, rusty red, light orange, and beige, which was probably white. Panels crudely whip-stitched together. Ends loose. S-ply, natural dyes, 23 EPI. Primarily pickup with stripes of plain weave.

Of a type not seen in Saudi Arabia. Colors brighter than #115, with less fine yarns in better condition. Four panels 13" wide each, except for one 12" wide. Panels were taken apart and reassembled in this kind of weaving for variety of uses. Colors: rusty red, red, bright blue, black, pastel peach, which was probably white and color ran. A mended place on an end panel circa 2" in diameter. Strips whip-stitched roughly, ends hemmed with whip-stitch roughly. S-ply, probably natural dyes, saha/pickup with stripes of plain weave.

Hearst Museum object titled Girth strap, accession number 9-23769, described as Girth strap, rasan. Card-woven in black and white with two single stripes in red. Simple diamond pattern. Stunning because of orange strips and embroidery, probably added for cushioning. Orange strips: 2.5" wide x 3'8" long - plain weave and fastened 30" from ends, leaving 38" plain card weaving in middle. Embroidery in 3" and 8" long patches, using colored plied wool yarn in diamond patterns, which hold the orange backing onto the card-woven strip. The intervening areas are unsewn. Cord weaving, plain weave on orange. The last few inches are braided flat and tied into a tassel. Ibrahim says it's 80 years old. S-ply, 9EPI, commercial dye.
