Hearst Museum object titled Cooking basket, accession number 1-16565, described as Cooking basket; twined. Warp is Willow (Salix), weft is yellow Pine. White pattern is Beargrass (Xerophyllum tenax). Red pattern is Chain fern (Woodwardia spinulosa) in alder (Alnus rubra). Similar (to 1-16564?); smaller; "(small deep, narrow at top)" added in pen. Very grimy from use. Globose shape. Horizontal dotted and solid stripes. White and red overlay, 2-faced, on brown. Mostly plain twined. 3-strand twining occurs: approximately 2 cm out from start; 1 row approximately 4 cm from start; top 2 rows, forming a rim.

Thin stripes at rim. Design on white ground: diagonally stacked striped rectangles create stepped vertical zigzags; dotted stripes on bottom. Mostly plain twined. 3-strand twining occurs: 1.5 cm radius from start; 2-2.5 cm from start; 2 rows at 3.5 cm from start; 2 rows at about 7 cm from start.

Very grimy from use. 2-faced overlay, diagonal bands of black and white. 3-strand twining: top row, also 3 areas on bottom. The rest is plain twined.

Dirty and worn from usage. Cylindrical shape. Very flexible. White 2-faced overlay designs; two thin stripes at top; horizontal bands, two of connected triangles and two of connected diamonds; with a repeating angled motif between the 2 band areas. Mostly plain twined.  3-strand twined for approximately 9 cm radius from start, and two rows at approximately 12 cm from start.

Three strand twining at the base, plain twined on sides, and one row of three strand twining at the rim.  Conifer root weft with beargrass overlay.  Black designs are probably maidenhair fern.  Some rim and base damage.  Staining on outside and inside.  Diagonal designs and one narrow stripe below the rim.

Hearst Museum object titled Cooking basket, accession number 1-71055, described as Twined, bowl shape with incurving rim.  Per Ralph Shanks:  Cooking basket, heavily used with some repairs.  Materials are shoot warps possibly hazel, conifer root weft, background overlay of beargrass, overlay design is maidenhair fern. Up to the right slant of weft twist. Most of the bottom is three strand twining with some plain twining, sides are all plain twined.  Design is two horizontal bands of open diamonds, top band with a dot in the center.  Attribution is Achumawi, Atsugewi, or Yana.
