Hearst Museum object titled Cooking basket, accession number 1-9949, described as Cooking basket; coiled. Warp is Willow (Salix), weft is Redbud (Cercis occidentalis). Red pattern is Redbud. Coiled; large and, in 1906, already "very old and much worn."  Decoration: diagonal zigzag design in red.

Black pattern is Brake fern (Pteris quilina). Red pattern is Redbud. 3-rod coiling with interlocking stitches; wide-mouthed with sloping sides.  Very large.  Decoration: vertical columns of diamond designs; these are very faint, but appear red in color. Basket is slightly damaged at bottom.

Black dye is Maidenhair fern (Adiantum pedatum). Very old; "(large, deep, twined)" added in pen. Extremely grimy and worn. One large horizontal break, mended with cotton twine. Break in rim. Black and white 2-faced overlay design. Stepped diagonal zigzag motif, with V-shaped motifs above. These are horizontally striped in black and brown. 3-strand twining occurs on the bottom.

Black dye is Maidenhair fern (Adiantum pedatum). Very small, deep, twined. Dirty from use. Globular shape. Mainly overlay; redbud on white, 2-faced; horizontally zigzagging parallelograms. Mostly plain weave. 3-strand twining for 1.5 cm radius from start; also approximately 3-3.5 cm from start.

Dirty and worn from usage. Cylindrical shape. Very flexible. White 2-faced overlay designs; two thin stripes at top; horizontal bands, two of connected triangles and two of connected diamonds; with a repeating angled motif between the 2 band areas. Mostly plain twined.  3-strand twined for approximately 9 cm radius from start, and two rows at approximately 12 cm from start.

Wide-mouthed with sloping sides.  Decoration: disconnected horizontal red lines.  Basket was described as being "very old" when it was collected in 1906.
