Hearst Museum object titled Burden basket, accession number 1-28614, described as Burden basket, tightly twined. Per Ralph Shanks: Burden or gathering basket. Conical. The base is three strand twined, sides are plain twined, reinforced rim wrapped in redbud. Warp sticks are hazel. The wefts are conifer root. Overlay background is beargrass. Designs are probably in redbud. Below rim is a design of a band of diagonal parallelograms. There is a larger mid-level design around body and then third thin star-shaped design around base. The redbud has bloom. Non-native string on rim. Probably made for sale, as there is no evidence of use.
