Context of use: Made by special men to be worn by toddlers to assist them in learning to walk and prevent their falling down. Description: Charm- cotton thread with two small bits of branch. Donor: University appropriation. Materials, techniques: Warp made from bark of Darup tree, weft also from cotton thread. Dark fibers dyed by boiling with leaves of Maui plant. Context of use: Used for carrying things; used and made by women (this one made 1970). Weave, coloring and material typical of Galla-Somalia bags, probably influences by them. Description: Bag- flat; plain twining; flexible warp; alternating bands of red, black, dark brown and natural beige- some with geometric design. 23 cm. height 37 cm. length.
