Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number 1-230645, described as Plain twined. Squat globular shape. Designs of stacked rhomboids with sawtooth edges in black and red-brown on ground of beargrass overlay. Willow (?) shoot warp, pine root weft, overlay of Xerophyllum tenax, adiantum pedatum (black), and Woodwardia fern midrib fibers stained red with alder bark, also redbud bark at top and bottom of design. Note row of 3-strand parallel twining on base, a rare weave.
Hearst Museum object titled Burden basket, accession number 1-230684, described as Openwork, twined Juncus rush; bowl shaped.  Tag: "S.CA. UNSP." Per Ralph Shanks:  Openwork twined burden basket.  Warps and wefts are juncus.  Up to the right slant of weft twist.  At the rim warps are bound under in pairs to the exterior side.  This is a Southwest California basket.
