Hearst Museum object titled Badge, accession number 9-21650, described as Imperial Era court official rank badge worn on the back of a robe (7th civil rank); tapestry (Kossu) weave central panel, framed in black and edged with narrow bias binding of silver/blue. Central Mandarin duck is both painted and woven in green, blue, pink and yellow w/ gold wrapped details on it’s back; duck stands on a blue rock over blue & white water and waves, and is surrounded by Buddhist and Taoist symbols and clouds against a gold wrapped sky ground; red Imperial sun in upper left corner. Symbols are painted in detail. Backing is a coarse open weave fabric [sacking?].

Front panels; W=15.5cm, L=30 cm. Back panel, W= 29.5 cm, L=32 cm. Black ground fabric w/ central egret surrounded by blue and gold water, clouds & Buddhist & Taoist symbols. Embroidery is dark, medium & light blues, off-white, gold, orange-red. Back (c) is one piece. Front (a) and (b), has been split in half, through image. Gold couched, Greek -key patterned border on all edges on a blue/black ground. Black lining.

Embroidered blue eye on each bird. Bird is standing on a rock over waves and water and surrounded by clouds and Bhuddist symbols. Border of scrolled flowers, tendrils and the Chinese character for long life.

Hearst Museum object titled Badges, accession number 9-21648a,b, described as Pair of rank badges, worn on the back & front of robe, Imperial Era; tapestry (Kossu) weave, w/ white birds (egrets Egret represents 6th civil rank)) standing on rocks, on a gold background surrounded by blue clouds, bats, cpeonies and various other flowers, conch shell, fan, flower pot, lozenges, endless knows, Imperial sun, various other Buddhist & Chinese symbols and florals all decorate. Bottom of each panel contains blue, diagonal water/waves and stylized mountains. LIght blue silk backing. (a) is two joined pieces sewn together. (b) is a single piece. . Border is 2 cm wide black & metallic band. Colors include light & dark blue, white, red-orange, green, pink, yellow and metalic gold.

Hearst Museum object titled Bag, accession number 10-3443, described as Bag; 46 cm l, ca. 60 cm at widest point; 2 round handles with outside diameter, 14 cm; fiber wrapped and knotted around circular pieces to make handle; ca . two thirds down on each handle another laayer of double ply twine is knotted onto the handles and macramed forming bag proper; macramed tied off on inside of bottom.

Hearst Museum object titled Bag, accession number 10-3441, described as Bag; 21.2 cm h, 30 cm w, 7 cm deep; beige and dark brown plaited bag with triangular patterns enclosed in squares in body of bag; 4 cm of cross hatched pattern at bottom and zig zag at top; bag held together with three .5 cm bands of bamboo encircling bag lengthwise and looped over horizontal reinforcement at top; horizontal band forms bottom part of half circular handles on back sand front two handles) ; all bands embellished with brown and beige wrapped elements; back has bamboo band connecting superstructure of bag as described above to bag’s lid (4 cmh x 23 cm l) geometrically patterned in dark brown and straw colored; bottom and top of bag have stabilizing elements lashed on.

Hearst Museum object titled Bag, accession number 10-3439, described as Bag; tan, bamboo plaited ovoid shaped bag made up of three nested baskets and 2 ply strap, 99 cm l. ;19 cm top to bottom; 28 cm w., 5.5 cm deep when assembled; a) top basket, strap, and bottom basket; top ovoid shape basket with concave (saddled-shaped) closed top; plaited bamboo with dark brown horizontal elements at lower (open)edge and band of braided multi shaded brown braided elements embelishing saddle shaped top, 2 loops for carrying strap which attaches top to bottom basket where it is tied to two basketry loops, bottom is same ovoid shape but with flat bottom with tan plaited band around bottom b) is plainted ovoid basket with the same brown braided elements as embellishment; has recessed curved interior which accommodates nesting. Each basket has slightly smaller guage of split bamboo and slightly larger circumference to accommodate nesting.

Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number 10-3438, described as Bag; tan, bamboo plaited ovoid shaped bag made up of four nested baskets ;18 cm top to bottom; 28 cm w., 5.5 cm deep when assembled; a) top ;ovoid shape basket with concave (saddled-shaped) closed top; plaited bamboo with dark brown horizontal elements at lower (open)edge and band of braided multi shaded brown elements embelishing saddle shaped top, 2 loops for carrying strap (missing) b and c) same with horizontal rows of two braided dark brown horizontal elements ;each has a recessed , curved interior which allows them to be nested inside one another without appearing to be so from outside; d) same as b and c, but with flat bottom with 2 cm braided tan strip surrounding. Each basket has slightly smaller guage of split bamboo and slightly larger circumference to accommodate nesting.
