Image Missing: Hearst Museum object titled Rug, accession number 9-6486, described as Rug; ivory with blue border; (mahogany and 3 guards); 81 x 52 inches. The pear-shaped design is common to Persian cite rugs of that period/ This is a Kashan rug. The designation “Saraband” is meaningless as it refers to a class of rugs with a similar pattern, but made hundreds of miles to the west in an entirely different style. The repeating figure in the field is more properly known as a “boteh” (leaf), and the pattern is called “miri boteh.”
