Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number 1-64299, described as Coiled, shallow, brown design. Per Ralph Shanks: Coiled winnowing basket. Single rod coil. The basket has a raffia handle. Sedgeroot wefts with redbud designs and three bands of light colored material on the base of the basket. The start is possibly twined. The work direction is to the left with an exterior work face. The slant of the weft twist is primarily up to the right. The weft fag ends are both concealed and clipped. The moving weft ends are either clipped or primarily concealed. On the backface there are some split stitches. The wefts are interlocking. The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coil ending. The design is a band repeating three stacked parallelograms followed by a z pattern band near the rim. The basket is probably Pomo or Patwin.
