Around the top an interrupted design of 2 single and 1 double black bars.  Metal tag "297".  Paper tag "Kitanemuk". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled wide mouthed basket bowl.  The basket has a deer grass bundle foundation.  The background material is willow.  The design materials are devils claw or bracken fern for the black and Joshua tree root for the red.  The design is a horizontal band of red diamonds outlined with willow with black background, often called a snake skin pattern.  At the rim is a repeating cross pattern formed by four rectangles.  The basket has a pinhole start.  The basket has an exterior workface and is woven in a rightward work direction.  The weft fag ends are clipped.  The rim is plain wrapped with a broken coil ending.   This basket is from the Kitanemuk or their neighbors based on the materials and design.

The design includes 2 encircling zigzag red bands, rectangles between the zigzags, rim ticks, and open rectangles at the base.  Clipped weft fag ends.  Interior workface with a rightward work direction.  Plain wrapped rim with a tapered coil ending.  Could be Kitanemuk or could also be Kawaiisu.

Red and black patterns are Yucca. 3 broad radiating vertical bands enclosing red triangles all pointing upward and bordered by feather design in black.  Bottom repaired with parchment.
