Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number 2-45419, described as Small, oval, coiled. Body is straw colored with 12 designs made of four squares in cross configuration going around basket in zig-zag pattern. Rim also done in brown. Brown is split devil's claw pod, body is split willow shoot, coiling bundle is split cattail root.  Cattail:  Typha latifolia.  Willow:  Salix gooddingii.  Devil's claw:  Martynia.
Hearst Museum object titled Cap, accession number 1-255011, described as Twined basketry. Geometric design in black, brown, and natural. Made with willow, Woodwardia fern dyed with alder bark and maiden hair fern.  Tag:  "Klamath R. Tribes att.". Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined woman's basket hat.  Crossed warp starting knot, indented. The warp material is probably hazel. The weft material is conifer root.  The weft overlay design has a beargrass background with red-dyed woodwardia and maidenhair fern designs. Starting at the starting knot, there is three strand twining for 3/4 inch, followed by 1 inch of plain twining, followed by two weft rows of three strand twining.  Plain twining continues to 1/2 inch below the rim where there is one weft row of three strand twining.  The rim is trimmed. The main design is three sets of four stacked parallelograms outlined by two triangles each.  The basket has a rightward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The workface is on the exterior.  The overlay is single-sided, with the design on the exterior.  The basket is from Northwestern California.
