Hearst Museum object titled Kero beer cup, accession number 16-14917, described as Beaker. wooden, painted with yellow, green and brown lacquer. Upper register of undulating rainbow subtending human figures and flowers. Central band of geometric designs, and lower band of lilies. Height 22 cm, width at mouth 18.5 cm. Libation beaker used in ritual festivities. Chicha (maize beer) is liquid drunk from it and sprinkled or poured on the ground. They were made and used in identical pairs. Caciques (chieftains) had them made on order. Apparently they ceased being made after the 1820’s. Attributed to the late 16th or 17th century (John Rowe). Called “qeru” in Quechua.
