Hearst Museum object titled Basket, accession number 1-27706, described as Twined, hour-glass shaped. Tag : "Klamath R. Tribes att." Per Ralph Shanks: Open-work twined hourglass shaped basket. The warps and wefts are willow, with some possibly unpeeled willow. Starting at the base the rim has bound down warps, the ends facing the exterior. After that there are two weft rows of three strand twining followed by open work with plain twining every 1/4 inch. There are two weft rows of three strand twining at the upper rim. The basket has an exterior workface, a rightward work direction, and an up to the right slant of weft twist. The basket is from Northwest California.

Per Ralph Shanks: Close-twined and openwork rectangular basket made for sale. Rectangular crossed warp starting knot, extending to the whole base of basket. The warp material is probably willow. The basket has conifer root wefts. The overlay weft material is beargrass, maidenhair fern, and red-dyed Woodwardia. Starting at the edge of the crossed warp base there is a 0.5 inch of three strand twining followed by .75 inches plain twining, followed by a 0.5 inch of openwork parallel warps, followed by 1 inch of plain twining, followed by ⅓ of an inch of openwork crossed warps. At the rim there are 2 weft rows and a reinforcing rod wrapped with beargrass alternating with red-dyed Woodwardia. The main design is a horizontal band of squared undulating beargrass. The basket has a rightward work direction, with an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is primarily single sided, with the main design on the exterior, and a checkered Woodwardia and beargrass design on the interior. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwestern California.

Per Ralph Shanks: Twined openwork basket. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp and weft material is probably willow. At the start there is some material that looks like wild grape. At the rim there is red and blue string woven in. The basket is plain twined over one warp, with the rows spaced approximately 3/4 inch apart. The rim is trimmed. The basket undulates. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist and a rightward work direction. The workface is on the exterior. The basket is from Northwestern California or the Southern Humboldt Athabaskan area.
Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-27686, described as Close twined, bowl shaped, band at top, 3 narrow bands of openwork. Tag "N.W. Calif". Second tag "Klamath R. Tribes Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Closed twined bowl with one row of openwork. Cross warp starting knot. The warp material is either hazel or willow. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass as well as a material with red bark. There is three strand twining at the starting knot for one inch. This is followed by two inches of plain twining, followed by two rows of three strand twining, separated by one row of plain twining. This is followed by plain twining until two inches below the rim, where a rod is added using lattice twining, followed by one weft row of three strand twining. This is followed by 1inch of plain twining, after which is a 1/2 inch of open work, followed by three weft rows of plain twining. The rim is formed by the warps which were looped together at the end and possibly more material was added. There are weft four rows of beargrass overlay, one of which also has the unknown red material. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The work direction is to the right. The workface is on the exterior. The weft overlay is primarily one sided. The basket is from Northwestern California, or possibly Southern Humboldt Athabaskan.

Per Ralph Shanks: Open twined burden basket with three leather straps. Crossed warp starting knot. The warp and weft material is probably willow. At the starting knot there is closely spaced plain twining until the edge of the bottom of the basket. After that open spaced plain twining continues to the end of the rim, which is braded with the warp sticks bound down on the interior of the basket. There are three rows of crossed warps below the rim. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The workface is on the exterior, with a rightward work direction. The basket is from Northwestern California.
