Carved, only the face is explicitly carved; mouth turned up. Part of shaman's paraphernalia. Presumed to be representation of the personae of the dead. (fide Lydia Black, June 1978). With burial.
Hearst Museum object titled Mat, accession number 2-7518, described as Made of twined grass. Rectangular, small weave, 3 rows of double parallel lines of red grasses extend length of mat. On one short end of rectangle in center is attached a piece of commercial cloth with buttonhole. Cloth has pattern of parallel lines of red and blue on white ground.
