Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-70294, described as Coiled, wide mouth, sloping sides.  Tags: "1.Tulari NTTT=Levy Grass Yucca Cat-Claw" on back "Kern Co. Type".  Second tag "Tulari #1 N.T.T.T." on back "Tulari #1 N.T.T.T". Per Ralph Shanks:  Coiled flaring basket bowl.  Grass bundle foundation.  Weft designs are red Joshua Tree root outlined in black, probably bracken fern root but possibly cats claw.  The background wefts are willow.  The designs include five expanding zigzags radiating out from a circle at the base, terminating at another black circle four rows below the rim.  Between each zigzag is a double diamond connected by a line.   At the rim there are nine sets of three/four rim ticks.  The basket has a pinhole start.  It has an interior workface with a rightward work direction.  The weft fag ends are clipped.  The wefts are fine and even.  The rim is plain wrapped with a tapered coil ending.  Based on the techniques and materials this basket is either Kawaiisu or Tubatulabal.
