Hearst Museum object titled Bowl basket, accession number 1-66813, described as Twined, complete overlay.  Tag: "Klamath R. Tribes att." Per Ralph Shanks:  Globular twined basket bowl "fancy basket".  Basket is in poor condition, with many breaks.  Crossed warp starting knot, slightly indented.  Overlay on the outside of the basket.  The warp material is hazel.  The weft is conifer root.  The weft overlay design is beargrass, and a small amount of maidenhair fern stems.  At the starting knot there is 1/2 inch of three strand twining, after that 2 inches of plain twining, after that one weft row of three strand twining, switching to plain twining until the rim, where there is remnants of one row of three strand twining.  The main design is four elements of alternating vertical stacked triangles.  On the base there is a speckled beargrass overlay with one solid ring.  There are parallelograms at the rim.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist with an exterior workface.  Based on the materials and techniques this is a Northwest California basket.
