Hearst Museum object titled Oya, accession number 9-21230, described as Oya. Off-white strip of crochetting, floral design. Traditionally made using a needle. “Today other techniques, tatting and crochet, have been substituted for needlelace, because they can create a similar effect in much less time.” (Hickman) 317cm x 2cm.

Borders ~11 cm. solid black, 4 yellow medallions, paisley forms and arcs (?), with floral sprays, hearts, crescents, stars and peacocks. Some areas off-register over-printed with red. Unhemmed. Very fine (thin) fabric, handwoven appearance.

Embroidered motifs include peonies and assorted flowers, phoenix, butterflies, pagodas, ducks, pavilion. Approx. 168.5 cm. x 162.5 cm. Fringe is 38 cm. long, 7 cm. of which is knotted. Small stains.
Hearst Museum object titled Spool of thread, accession number 9-21233, described as Thread. Commercial tube of thread. Thread wrapped on cardboard tube, with label and cellophane cover. Label says, “exstra naylon”. 9 cm x 4.5 cm.
