Hearst Museum object titled Jar and lid, accession number 9-13494a-c, described as Tea jar (a), lid (b), bag (c): Jar and lid; porcelain, blue and white.  Octagonal, straight sides to high shoulder, round to short cylindrical neck; round short foot.  Eight panel decorated in underglaze blue on crackled white ground with four alternating motifs; man in Chinese clothing, coin and diamond patterns, landscape and calligraphic texts.  Scalloped cloud patter on shoulder.  Neck broken and mended with lacquer and gilt.  Lid (b) is a disk attached to cylinder with blue swastika-fret pattern on top.  Bag (c) with drawstring is a dark blue silk with brown bottom.  H (a) 8.7cm, max Dia. 6.5cm; (b) H. 2cm, DIa. 3.3cm. Porcelain, underglaze cobalt decoration on crackled white ground. Tea jar, for use in tea ceremony (?) By appearance, the jar could be of Chinese manufacture, however the sild bag suggests its use as a tea jar for Japanese tea ceremony. Jar with lid in silk bag; Porcelain, glaze, silk; Molded ceramic, glazing, sewing; Blue on white, Blue drawstring bag a- 2.5" diam. x 3.5" high b- 1 3/8" diam.. c- Eight-sided porcelain jar with lid.  White ground has blue designs, panels decorated with either writing, scene, person or geometric design.  Cloud pattern on shoulder and swastika on kid.  Round base.  All pieces good condition.
