Hearst Museum object titled Tobacco basket, accession number 1-330, described as Plain twined "tobacco" basket.  Bands and broad vertical zigzag pattern in light brown.  Three tags "N.W. Calif.", "Klamath R. Tribes att.", "27". Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined, globular basket with constricted mouth.  Crossed warp starting knot, indented.  The warp material is probably hazel. The weft material is conifer root.  The weft overlay design is in beargrass.  Starting at the starting knot, there is 2.5 inches of plain twining, followed by 1 weft row of three strand twining, followed by 1 weft row of plain twining, followed by 1 weft row of three strand twining.   Plain twining continues to the rim where there is 1 weft row of three strand twining, with the remnants of 1 more weft row of three strand twining.  The rim is trimmed.  There is a reinforcing rod on the inside.  The main design is five vertical zigzags outlined in triangles.  The workface is on the exterior.  The overlay is single-sided, with the design on the exterior.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist.  The basket is from Northwest California.
