Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined basket, meal sifting shaped, not used.  The basket has a crossed warp starting knot, covered.  The warp material is probably hazel. The background weft material s conifer root.  The weft overlay is beargrass.  The basket has three strand twining at the base for 1.5 inches, then it is plain twined up to one inch below the rim, where there are two weft rows of three strand twining, after which plain twining continues to the rim.  The decoration includes three areas of design, with checkered triangles at the base, two stepped horizontal bands with triangles, and the last band with checkered triangles.  The rim is trimmed.  The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist and a rightward work direction.  The workface is on the interior.  The design overlay is single-sided.  The basket is from Northwestern California.
