Hearst Museum object titled Lacquered plate, accession number 3-26878, described as Batea", wood plate or tray; round with upturned rim.  Red and black lacquer in the two-layered "rayado" or "recortado" technique. Black figures (goose, rabbits, plant forms) in low relief over red background.  See 3-26876 for basic lacquer coating and 3-26877 for intermediate stage in this technique (which is limited to Olinala, Gro.).  Diam. 23.2 cm.  "Rayado" technique; 2nd coating of contrasting color applied over base coat; design engraved in top coat and excess material around figures removed. (see acc. env.).  Made by Damaso Ayala and family.
