Image Missing: Hearst Museum object titled Plaster cast, museum number 21-4, described as Cast of group of The Wrestlers. Copy of a marble sculpture in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence. The restorer (sometime in 1583 AD) was wrong to let the victor strike his opponent. The conditions of the contest forbade this, and required the victor to compel a surrender. The under man is unbeaten. New parts: all four tibias, the victor’s right arm, The other wrestler’s left hand. Both heads are antique but not pertinent. They belonged to the Hiobids. Compare Freiderichs-Wolters, Die Gipsabgusse 1426. Original found with the Hiobid statues near St. John Lateran, Rome, in 1583. Was in Villa Medici, Rome. Was set up in Florence in 1677, where it occupies a place of honor (The Tribuna).
