Label from Samuel Barrett found loose in basket, does not belong to this basket.  "NW Cal Att." Per Ralph Shanks:  Twined fancy basket, in the shape of a storage basket.  Crossed warp starting knot.  The warp material is probably willow or hazel. The weft background material is conifer root.  The weft overlay background is beargrass, with red dyed woodwardia overlay designs.  From the starting knot there is one inch of three strand twining, followed by 2.5 inches of plain twining, followed by two rows of three strand twining.  Plain twining continues to the rim, which is trimmed.  The main design is four horizontal undulations of zigzags with triangles on them.  The workface is on the exterior.  The overlay is single sided, on the exterior.  The basket has a rightward work direction, with up to the right slant of weft twist.  The basket is from Northwest California.
