: Hearst Museum object titled Oil lamp, museum number 9-12914, described as Tall brass standing oil lamp with depressions for 5 wicks; saucer-like base; elaborate finial. Native name and meaning: "kutulliwelluku" (in Tamil: standing lamp). Used in Hindu household shrines. A prototype, these lamps were often more elaborate but this is the most commonly used type and size for modest houses. Brass lamps of this type are found and used in "puja" (worship) all over India with some regional variations. Height 48 cm.
