Hearst Museum object titled Sifting tray, accession number 1-61757, described as Basket tray, twined. Tag "Kal. R. Tr. Att.". Per Ralph Shanks: Twined basket tray, perhaps a flour/ sifting tray, probably not used. The basket has a crossed warp starting knot. The warp material is probably hazel or possibly willow. The background weft is conifer root. The weft overlay is beargrass. At the starting knot there is 1 inch of three strand twining, followed by plain twining until 1.5 inches below the rim, where there is 1 weft row of three strand twining. Plain twining continues to the rim. The main design is comprised of diagonally stacked parallelograms, with two circles above and below, and another band of parallelograms at the rim. The basket has an interior workface with a rightward work direction. The basket has an up to the right slant of weft twist. The overlay is primarily on the inside. The rim is trimmed. There are hairs woven into the basket.
