Extremely rare. Said to have been imported from Istanbul
Hearst Museum object titled Shawl, accession number 7-5408, described as Veil (vale), black rayon. Gauze technique. Size 37cm x 31cm Worn by Moslem women to cover face. Not worn after World War II when it was prohibited by law. A large cotton scarf was worn over head and shoulders with this. Worn by women and maidens in public places.
