Hearst Museum object titled Smoking pipe, accession number 9-644, described as tobacco pipe of silver-colored metal; small bowl, rounded stem with horizontal incised lines; Context of use: Rural woman’s pipe.  Tiny bowl served to hold only a small pinch of fine-cut tobacco, enough only for only two or three  whiffs; generally several pipefuls are smoked in succession.  The lines on stem probably imitate grass.  The stem-shape is a stylized peapod.
