: Hearst Museum object titled Carved containers, accession number 9-8938, described as inro with netsuke; flat oval lacquer box with 4 compartments and cover, all connected by brown cord to ivory curled-up rat netsuke; design is allover repeat of 4-lobed flower inside diamond (gold with traces of black outlines); worn by men; attached at the belt by a silk cord with netsuke toggle; originally used to hold the seal which must always be at hand; later used mainly for medicines, sweetmeats, etc.; this specimen does not have the bead cord holder (ojime).
