Hearst Museum object titled Goldsmith's tool, accession number 18-673a,b, described as (a): (#338) Carburating and pressurizing tank of soldered brass construction with brass inlet and outlet nipples; Height 12 cm. (b): (#306) Green rubber or neoprene tubing (two pieces) with torch and valve; Length longest (with torch) ca. 110 cm. Used with bellows, 18-672; used by goldsmith to heat gold or silver. Carburating and pressurizing tank with torch, probably uses kerosene which is mixed with  pressurized air from bellows. Tank was placed in coals of fire to preheat vapor-air mixture to facilitate combustion and increase pressure. Torch has brass head and valve with steel body tube. Industrially produced, with brazed construction.
