Hearst Museum object titled Statue, accession number 5-6314, described as Carving; wood; human figure with knife in each hand on back of animal or spirit form; painted mostly with white, chalky paint; red-brown and black hair, designs, etc. Height 78 cm. A special figure; use is personal, but generally it serves as messenger to ancestor and god. One must serve and pray to it before any undertaking to ensure protection and success. Top figure is usually considered to represent the owner. Meant to represent a bigger “ivri” kept in another village by one of the quarter of Owhe which originally belonged to the youngest son of the founder of Owhe. Tribal mark indicated age group of original image -- indicated association with village which Owhe broke away from and date of this event.

Hearst Museum object titled White wooden mask, accession number 5-6328, described as Mask; wood; horned head with a snake or alligator chin extension; painted with chalky white paint with red-brown dots. Height 84 cm. (A copy of the mask used during the festival described below). Used during the “Uhe” festival, which is part of a cycle of festivals to “Eni,” the god of the town. Worn during the dance by the Uheri youth early in the morning of the day of the festival. The dance is called “Emusue” and is supposed to be done by the youth of Uheri quarter (the senior quarter that sponsors this festival).
