Hearst Museum object titled Obi, accession number 9-17700, described as Obi (partial), plain weave orange silk w/ large weft-brocade multicolor butterfly motif; background woven motif quatrefoil floral in diamond shapes & curvilinear vertical stripes, worked in threads made of silver pressed on paper.  Soiled, metallic threads worn on front and breaking in reverse, due to long floats.  Lovely example, early 19th century (fide Mary Hayes).  Tied in intricate fashion; used as a kimono sash.  152.3 cm L by 34.6 cm W.

Faded, soiled; hand-stitched to a gold silk lining.  43.3 cm L.
