Image Missing: Hearst Museum object titled Roach and bone spreader, accession number 2-72231a,b, described as dyed horse hair roach hair ornament (a) and bone roach spreader (b). roach hairs dyed red at roots and yellow at tips with dark brown center. attached to a braided band. 6 notched feathers with colored feather tips and 7 feather tipped hair bunches decorate the roach. spreader is a carved bone disc with the remnants of a tail now broken away. disk is pierced by 3 holes used to attach 2 hollow bone pieces, each decorated with 2 incised lines at top and pierced by 2 holes at base, which are used to attach them to the disc and thongs which extend below to form ties. each bone decoration has a short, pointed stick attached in the center.
