Hearst Museum object titled Pull toy, accession number 9-18169, described as Toy (pull toy), image of Nandi (bull), light color wood; Nandi lies on platform to which are attached four wheels held in place with nails; perforation at front of platform; engraved features and trappings. Nandi is the Lord of gladness, Shiva’s bull vehicle. See similar toy in “The Everyday Art of India,” Bussabarger and Robins, page 121. that example was sold at the Mysore City Market and is a likeness of the monumental seventeen-foot hight stone Nandi at a nearby mountain shrine (Chamundi Hill).
