A farm commune with tractor working a field is framed with green flowers and cumulus clouds. Above in red-outlined characters is the slogan “People’s Commune is good” (人民公社好 renmin gongshe hao). A bouquet of farm crops – wheat, sorghum, corn, cotton – is graced with the character “abundant” (丰 feng). Hearst Museum object titled Bowl, accession number 9-23617, described as Materials: Glazed porcelain Diameter at rim: 17.3 cm Date: 1968 Country: People’s Republic of China Description: Two alternating decals, each appearing twice, with touches of hand applied color. One portrays in red two men and one woman in front of a luminous setting, reading presumably, Mao Zedong’s thought. A slogan, reading: Revolution depends on Mao Zedong Thought (干革命靠毛泽东思想 gan geming kao Mao Zedong sixiang), appears in the front with a yellow sunflower on each side. The other pattern portrays a purple steamboat on a blue sea amid waves. Above there is a slogan in purple that reads: “Sailing on the high seas depends on the helmsman” (大海航行靠舵手dahai hangxing kao duoshou). Inscription: Kiln mark: “Zi River porcelain factory, Hunan 1968” (湖南資江瓷厂1968 Hunan Zijiang cichang 1968)  Place of Origin: Yiyang, Hunan Province. Condition: Good, with signs of wear. One decal in red shows a woman driving a tractor that has a red flag and a slogan reading: Support Industry (支援工业zhiyuan gongyi). The tractor carries a full load. The other pattern in green shows a sunflower. Interior has red fish alternating with green water grass. Inscription: Kiln mark: “Zi River porcelain factory, Hunan, 1967” (湖南 资江瓷厂Hunan Zijiang cichang 1967). The slogan reads: “Make it your principle to fight selfishness, denounce Revisionism” (以斗私、批修为綱 yi dousi、pixiu wei gang). On the right there is a stylized wheat pattern above a slogan reading: “Grasp revolution, Promote production” (抓革命促生产zhua geming cu shengchan). Contents in Quotation from Mao Zedong framed by a wheat garland, concluding with: “Carry the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution through to the end” (要把无产阶级文化大革命进行到底 yao ba wuchan jieji wenhua dageming jinxing daodi). Image portrays two women sitting by a paddy field, each holding a book (presumably Quotations from Mao Zedong). The woman on the right, wearing clothes of a laborer, points with her right hand, seemingly instructing the woman on the left, a student by appearance. Inscription: Front: “Read Chairman Mao’s books, listen to Chairman Mao’s words” (读毛主席的书 听毛主席的话 du Mao zhuxi de shu, ting Mao zhuxi de hua), followed by a seal. Reverse: “Quotation from Chairman Mao: Be resolute, fear no sacrifice, and surmount every difficulty to win victory” (毛主席语录 下定决心。不怕牺牲。排除万难。去争取胜利。 Mao zhuxi yulu: Xia ding juexin. Bu pa xisheng.
